DELHI, N.Y. (December 1, 2018) – SUNY Delhi men's and women's swimming and diving performed in front of their home crowd for the first time this season at Saturday's Fall Invitational. The Broncos welcomed Bard College at Simon's Rock, Cazenovia and Penn State Altoona. The Delhi men placed second with 271 points, trailing first-place Altoona by just 73 points. The women took fourth with 67, as Cazenovia won the women's meet with 223 points.
Diver Dylan Dano totaled a 102.2 on the one-meter board to earn the men's first 16 points of the day. Jonathon Brathwaite took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.28, while Daniel Landis grabbed second in the 500-yard freestyle at 7:44.39, as well as Jacob Shoemaker in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:20.42. The Broncos went on to take third in five events. Robert Armistead had four of those finishes, taking two solo in the 200-yard IM at 2:52.65 and the 100-yard backstroke at 1:22.07. The foursome of Jonathon Brathwaite, Armistead, Shoemaker and James Brunt earned third in the 200-yard medley relay at 2:14.56, as well as placing third in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:58.10.
On the women's side, Julia Witt led with a pair of second-place finishes. This included the 200-yard freestyle at 2:17.43 and the 500-yard freestyle at 6:16.66. Witt closed out the team's day finishing fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a mark of 22:21.14. Delhi-native Madison Saleman placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:25.79, fifth in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:37.87 and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle at 38.01.
Head coach Mike Burud's squad now enters winter break, and will return to action in the new year on Saturday, January 19 at the Alfred State Pioneer Classic, slated to start at 11:00 a.m.
