CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (November 4, 2018) – Head coach Mike Burud's SUNY Delhi swimming and diving team had their third test of the season Saturday at the Cazenovia Invitational. The field featured host Cazenovia, Gallaudet and Herkimer. The Broncos men placed second with 202 points, 36 points behind winner Gallaudet. The women were fourth with 54 points.
Freshmen Robert Armistead took a pair of victories to lead the men. He had one solo win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:25.74, and teamed with James Brunt, Damon Keefer, Jacob Shoemaker to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 2:04.57. Armistead, Brunt, Shoemaker and John Cosmus also tallied second-place marks on the day. All four took runners-up in the 200-yard medley relay at 2:24.20. Armistead was second in the 200-yard breaststroke at 3:16.45, as did Brunt in the 200 yard backstroke at 3:16.11, Cosmus in the 2:53.89, and Shoemaker in the 200 yard IM at 2:51.55.
On the women's side, Julia Witt earned a second-place mark in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:17.70. She went on to finish third in the 50-yard freestyle at 28.33 and the 500-yard freestyle at 6:16.61. Teammate Caitlyn Dowd earned her highest finish of the day in the 100-yard freestyle, taking fifth at 1:18.58.
The Broncos' next challenge will be at William Smith on Saturday, Nov. 10. The meet will also feature local-foe SUNY Cobleskill.
