Delhi Visits Cobleskill to Play Two; Broncos Fall Short in DH

COBLESKILL, NY (April 22, 2022) -- The SUNY Delhi Broncos Softball travelled to Cobleskill to play the first two of 6 games over 4 days. Thanks to changes forced on the programs by weather, these were considered home games for the Broncos. Delhi, even with the last at-bats, weren't able to avoid the Fighting Tigers' sweep in the two game series Friday afternoon.

GAME 1:

SUNY Delhi 3 vs. SUNY Cobleskill 11

Cobleskill was able to pound out 16 hits over the 7 innings and also was able to push runs across the plate in the first five innings. Delhi was able to get a run back in the bottom of the first after trailing 2-0. Roselyn Monks singled to lead off the inning and eventually scored on a Jessica Kwasnik single.

The Broncos' run in the third inning put the score at 5-2 in favor of Cobleskill. Mel Papuli singled, advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a Kitty Messina base hit.

Messina would single again in the 5th to bring in the last run for the Broncos. Delhi would tally 9 hits of their won with Monks, Messina, and Kwasnik grabbing two hits each.

Papuli threw the full game for the Broncos; taking the loss in game 1.

Game 2:

SUNY Delhi 1 vs SUNY Cobleskill 9

The second game of the afternoon was shortened to five innings; with Cobleskill using a 5-run third and 12 hits to stretch their lead to 8 runs and triggering the early completion.

The Fighting Tigers didn't change much from game 1, scoring again in the top half of the first four innings.

Delhi would get their solo run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Papuli doubled to start, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a Kwasnik ground out.

Messina's second inning single was the only other hit for the Broncos in the game. Danielle Seymour and Katelynn Rose combined for the 5 innings on the mound for Delhi.

Delhi record will sit at 6-11 overall and 3-2 in NAC contests when they play SUNY Poly in a 11AM/1PM doubleheader on Sunday April 24. The games will be played at Sidney High School.
