Meagan Hillard Announced as Next Softball Head Coach

DELHI, N.Y.  (October 24, 2018) – SUNY Delhi Director of Athletics Bob Backus has announced the hiring of Meagan Hillard as the head coach of the women's softball program. Hillard, a former player and assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team heading into the 2019 season.

"We are pleased and excited to bring coach Hillard to our SUNY Delhi coaching staff," related Backus. "With her softball background, she will be a tremendous asset to our women's athletics program."

Hillard contributes to the Broncos a versatile background in softball, being a utility player for the Panthers all four years and assistant coach for two. She captured the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Academic All-Conference for 2013, 2015, and 2016, and the college's Scholar-Athlete Award for 2013, 2015, and 2016. She was named a captain for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, where she accumulated 26 runs, four home runs, 106 putouts, and 50 assists.

As an assistant coach, she worked closely with outfielders ensuring the proper mechanics and shared duties of hitting coach. She also developed workouts, circuits, yearly goals, team activities, and fundraising ideas. Hillard organized and supervised pitcher/catcher clinics for youths.

Hillard earned her Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training in 2016. She completed two internships at Houghton College and St. Bonaventure University, and two clinicals at Pitt-Bradford and Portville Central School.

While completing her undergraduate degree, Hillard was involved with the Athletic Training Club Treasurer and Senior Gift Campaign. She was in charge of club account funds, organizing work shifts, and assisted in developing strategies to meet the donor's challenge.
