HAMPTON, Va. (April 16, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi softball team escaped the chilling confines of Upstate New York over spring break for a three-day, six-game stay at host Stratford University.

The Broncos started things off Thursday with a doubleheader against Bryant & Stratton Virginia, falling to the Bobcats in the first game, 9-0, and coming up just short in the nightcap, 9-7. Delhi then took on the Stratford Cardinals for back-to-back twin bills Friday and Saturday. The team dropped both games Friday by 8-0 and 5-2 scores, and came up just short in the Saturday games, 5-1 and 6-1.

Emily Clapper led Delhi with six hits over the six-game span, including a pair of two-hit performances against Bryant & Stratton on Thursday. She had a double with two RBIs in that second game, contributing to the Broncos' four-run third inning and their two-run fifth. Sierra Keesler combined for four hits with one home run and a pair of RBIs. Her first ribbie came during the fifth inning of the second Bryant & Stratton game Thursday, with her dinger coming on a solo shot in the first game versus the Cardinals Saturday.

Pitchers Jenna Lutz and Haylee Lefebvre split starts, with Lutz combining for two strikeouts over 13.0 innings. She gave up 16 earned runs (20 total) with 35 hits. Lefebvre fanned five over 15.2 frames, allowing 15 earned runs (21 total) on 28 hits. Molly Greene pitched relief, offering 4.1 total innings with one strikeout and surrendering just one earned run on three hits. Greene provided a highlight in the latter game Saturday, hurling three scoreless innings after the Cardinals scored six runs in the first three frames. She allowed just two hits.

Coach Vicki Andruszkiewicz's team is set to get back in the New York groove for two weeks' worth of games. It all begins this Wednesday with a home doubleheader against Cazenovia, slated for 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
