RUTLAND, Vt. (April 10, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi softball team played its first regular-season doubleheader Tuesday at College of St. Joseph. It marked the Broncos' first game action since their 11-game mid-winter break trip in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in late February-early March. Delhi fell to the Fighting Saints in both games in five innings. CSJ took the first game, 13-5, and won the second, 16-5.

COLLEGE OF ST. JOSEPH 13, SUNY DELHI 5 (FIVE INNINGS)

The Broncos responded from an early 2-0 deficit by scoring four in the top of the second to lead 4-2. The Fighting Saints answered right back with six in the bottom half of the second and four more in the third to take a commanding 12-4 lead. Brittany Trank kept Delhi alive in the top of the fifth with an RBI single to cut CSJ's lead to seven and get the Broncos out of mercy territory. The Fighting Saints, however, would score in the bottom half of the inning to enforce a mercy. Haylee Lefebvre fanned a pair of batters in 3.2 innings of work, allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs (13 total). Each of Delhi's four runs in the second came on different at-bats, with one RBI credited to Dakota Baker, Liana Garry, Renee Stilwell and Emily Clapper. Garry's score came on an RBI double.

COLLEGE OF ST. JOSEPH 16, DELHI 5 (FIVE INNINGS)

The Fighting Saints opened the nightcap with four runs in the first. Delhi got a run back in the top of the third when catcher Samantha Mendelsohn reached first on a third-baseman error that allowed Liana Garry to score. CSJ responded by raking in five runs in the bottom of the third and seven more in the fourth to make the score 16-1. The Broncos looked to keep the game alive in the top of the fifth with a four-run rally, but were unable to cut the lead any closer to prevent the mercy. Starter Jenna Lutz recorded one K in 3.1 innings of service, allowing 17 hits with 12 earned runs (13 total). Mendelsohn, Emily Clapper, Molly Greene and Jaylynn Sheppard each had one RBI, with Clapper's run coming in off a double.
