Broncos Fall to Grove City, Schoolcraft to Begin Myrtle Beach Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (February 28, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi softball team began their season Wednesday playing two games in their 11-game spring break trip. The Broncos suffered a 16-3 loss versus Grove City to begin the day, followed by a 14-7 loss against Schoolcraft.

GROVE CITY 16, SUNY DELHI 3

The Broncos gave up five runs in each of the first three innings, with a one-run second inning and two-run fifth inning showing as Delhi's offense. The Wolverines also tacked on a run in the fourth to cap their scoring. Haylee Lefebvre was handed the loss, allowing seven earned runs, including ten total, on ten hits over 1.1 frames. Jenna Lutz pitched the remainder of the game, giving up just three earned runs (six total) runs on five hits over the next 2.2 innings. Brittany Trank singled in Delhi's first run of 2018, knocking in Lefebvre from second in the second inning. Sierra Keesler then tripled to center field in the fifth to drive in Renee Stillwell from first, and eventually scored herself on a passed ball later on in the inning.

SCHOOLCRAFT 14, DELHI 7

Delhi jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings, thanks in part to a pair of RBIs from both Emily Clapper and Sierra Becht and one other from Sierra Keesler. The last three runs came on a Becht at bat, where, after a fielding error by the third baseman allowed Renee Stilwell to score from second, a throwing error by the catcher sailed into left field, where Keesler scored from first and Becht rounded the bases. Starter Jenna Lutz gave up three runs in the third and two runs in the fourth as Delhi hung to a 7-5 lead after five. Molly Greene came in for Lutz after she allowed two on the start the sixth. That opened the door to a nine-run inning for the Ocelots, which led to Greene being handed the defeat. Haylee Lefebvre took the mound for the last 2.0 innings, giving up two runs, none earned, on two hits with one strikeout.
