DELHI, NY (March 27, 2022) - The SUNY Delhi men's tennis team opened their season with a win over the Saxons of Alfred University by a count of 7-2.
Delhi picked up a 2-1 advantage in doubles winning at number one and number three. In number one doubles, Jarod Rackliffe and Christopher Balogh beat Logan Cross and Davind Lingerfelter 8-3. At number three doubles, Kyle Gonda and Dominick DeBonis topped Evan Kent and Sam Adu-Tutu 8-4.
In singles play, Delhi won five of the six matches. Leading the way was Jarod Rackliffe, who remained unbeaten in his collegiate career with a win 6-1, 6-1. Christopher Balogh won at number two singles 6-3, 6-3. The closest match of the day came at number four singles where Dominick DeBonis fell in the first set 4-6, then battled back to win the second 6-2. The decisive third set went long, but DeBonis outlasted Hibbert to win the set 10-8. In the other two victories for the Broncos, Daniel Distasio won at number five singles 6-1 and 6-0 and Ryan Fitzpatrick won at number Six singles 6-4 and 6-2.
The Broncos will be back in action next Friday when they play host to Bard College.
