Men's Tennis Ranked Second in NAC Preseason Poll, Ready to Begin 2019 Season

DELHI, NY. (March 7, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi men's tennis team enters the 2019 season ranked tied for second in the NAC Preseason Poll, as announced by the conference. The Broncos share the second spot with Northern Vermont Johnson, both earning 14 points, as the men are set to begin their first season in the NAC.

Second-year head coach Brian Mitko's team is armed with four returning players and five newcomers. The doubles tandem of sophomore Brody Rettle (Staten Island, NY / Susan E. Wagner) and Michael Zerniak (Wolcoot, NY / North-Rose Wolcott) posted the team's best record last season at 5-1, including 5-0 at three doubles. The team has been training hard to as they begin their season next weekend, preparing to make a NAC Tournament run. "We are the underdog, we are going in needing to prove to people how good we actually are," said Mitko.

The Broncos begin their season on the road on Mar. 16 at Houghton, then return to Delhi the next day for their home-opener versus College of St. Elizabeth. The Broncos will host Elmira on Mar. 22, then finish out March heading up to take on Thomas (ME) on Mar. 30 and Sage Mar. 31. The men begin April taking a midweek road trip to Utica on April 3,  then have three straight home matches: Fairleigh Dickinson Florham on Apr. 5, followed by back-to-back NAC matches with Northern Vermont Johnson on April 6 and Northern Vermont Lyndon on April 7. The Broncos conclude their regular season heading to conference-foe MCLA on April 13, and hosting Utica on April 17.

Thomas (ME) topped the NAC Preseason poll with 25 points, followed by Northern Vermont Lyndon in fourth with 12 points and MCLA fifth with ten points.
