Men Open Season Downed at SUNY Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. (August 30, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team began the 2019 season with a visit to SUNY Potsdam on Friday. Despite an even 11-11 battle in shots, the host Bears connected on three scoring chances to hand the Broncos a 3-0 defeat. It marked Delhi's first loss in its previous 12 matches, going 11-0-1 to end the 2018 season. Head coach Brian Mitko's team continues on the road at Utica on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.

Senior goalkeeper Corey O'Toole posted four saves on the afternoon. Potsdam swiftly grabbed momentum, snagging two early scores as they took a 2-0 lead into halftime. Jeffrey Shultz tallied the first at the 2:08 mark, followed by Alejandro Callejas finding the goal at 5:09. Though the Broncos settled in to freeze the deficit for the rest of the half, Callejas struck again for the Bears in the second half at 57:43 for what would be the final score.

Friday marked the first of Delhi's three away contests to start the season. Following Utica Sunday, they will be at Clarks Summit on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. before opening their home season with Albany College of Pharmacy on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1:00 p.m.
