Coleman Akey Joins Men's Soccer Coaching Staff for 2019

DELHI, N.Y. (August 30, 2019) – As the SUNY Delhi men's soccer team prepares for their season-opener tonight at SUNY Potsdam, head coach Brian Mitko is pleased to welcome new assistant coach Coleman Akey to his staff for the 2019 season. The native of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and SUNY Plattsburgh alumnus brings to the Broncos a great amount of both playing and coaching experience, having been a college student-athlete at SUNY Adirondack and most recently coaching various levels in the Saratoga Springs area.

Akey was a student-athlete and graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, and was a long-time player for Saratoga Club Soccer. He continued his soccer career at SUNY Adirondack, playing forward for two years during the Timberwolves' record-setting 2012 and 2013 seasons. The team went 30-5 over both seasons, including reaching the 2013 NJCAA National Tournament. Akey then transferred to SUNY Plattsburgh, where he received his Bachelor's in Writings Arts and Literature in 2016.

He has most recently served as an assistant coach for the Ballston Spa High School boys soccer team and the Saratoga-Wilton Soccer Club U-16 and U-19 boys soccer squads.

The Broncos open their season this weekend with two matches on the road. It all starts tonight when they face SUNY Potsdam at 4:00 p.m. (LIVE VIDEO | LIVE STATS). Delhi then travels to face Utica on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (LIVE VIDEO).
