Broncos Take 2-1 Win at Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (October 17, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team rallied behind first and second half goals by Rommernio Morris and Brody Rettle, respectively, to carry them to a 2-1 road win at Cazenovia on Wednesday. The win marked the Broncos' sixth in a row to improve their record to 9-2.

Delhi scored the first two goals of the day, with the opening score provided by Morris off a feed from Matt Cassidy at the 5:57 mark. Rettle then followed in the second half to tally his sixth straight match with a goal at 54:21 for the 2-0 advantage. Freshman goalkeeper Noah Blake played nearly first 16 minutes, totaling three saves, before Marcos Andrino took over in net. Andrino logged one save on the day, and while Caz's Lucas Wendling put his team on the board at the 82:37 mark, the senior goalie and the defense strayed away any chance of a comeback.

Despite trailing, 13-6, in shots, the Broncos charted all six on goal, while the Wildcats posted five. Delhi also had three corner-kick chances to Caz's four.

Wednesday's win was Delhi's first match since they received the number-three seed for November's ACAA Tournament. Head coach Brian Mitko's team is slated to play Pine Manor in the league semifinals, set for Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Finlandia University in Michigan.

The Broncos have three more regular-season matches, beginning with a meeting at Nazareth this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Delhi will then play its home finale against New Rochelle on Wednesday' Oct. 24 at 3:00 p.m., followed by a road contest at Fisher on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 4:30 p.m.
