Men's Soccer Holds Down Three Spot in New USCAA Poll

NORFOLK, Va. (October 12, 2018) – SUNY Delhi men's soccer, in the midst of a five-match winning streak, enjoyed a second straight week in the number-three spot of this week's third edition of the USCAA Division II Coaches Poll with 239 votes. The Broncos tallied wins last week at Albany College of Pharmacy and SUNY ESF to keep their streak going, beating the Panthers, 2-1, and the Mighty Oaks, 4-3. Head coach Brian Mitko's squad is 8-2 on the year.

Team-leading scorers Alhasane Sako and Brody Rettle scored a goal in each of the Broncos' pair of wins. Sako leads the squad and the ACAA with 23 points on ten goals and three assists, while Rettle ranks second with 18 points (third in ACAA) on seven goals (fourth in ACAA) and four assists. Both have earned Athlete of the Week honors this season, with Sako receiving USCAA and ACAA honors, with Rettle recording ACAA accolades.

Johnson & Wales Charlotte led the poll for the third straight week with 250 points, while Penn State Brandywine remained in second with 243 votes. Berkeley NY took the fourth spot with 220 votes, while Christendom was fifth with 219 votes. In addition, Albany College of Pharmacy and SUNY ESF were ranked seventh and tenth, respectively, giving the Broncos a 2-0 record against ranked USCAA opponents. Delhi is set to face College of New Rochelle later this season on Oct. 24, who was ranked ninth this week.

Coach Mitko's squad begins a two-match home stand on Sunday, welcoming Valley Forge for a 1:00 p.m., followed by hosting Cazenovia on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
