ONEONTA, N.Y. (September 12, 2018) – It was an historic matchup Wednesday evening when SUNY Delhi men's soccer visited local opponent Hartwick. Not only was it the first official meeting in the schools' history, the Broncos now hold the ever-so-important one-match advantage in the all-time series, defeating the Hawks by a 2-1 score. Head coach Brian Mitko's team improved to 3-1 on the year.

Delhi stayed on the offensive all night long, striking Hartwick with a 24-5 advantage in shots (12-2 in shots on goal), including a 14-0 showing in the second half. As it stood, though, the Broncos twice held on to one-goal leads when the match wasn't tied. Delhi got the first score nearly 23 minutes in when Brody Rettle took a clear lane and connected for the 1-0 lead. In minute 34, Hartwick's Troy Amegashie had an open lane of his own, with only goalie Marcos Andrino standing in the way. A collision ensued between the two, awarding Hartwick a penalty kick, which Amegashie took full advantage of to tie the match at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The Broncos continued hammering away at the goal in second half in search of regaining the lead. They finally broke through in the 63rd minute when a shot by Mitch Reed sent Hawks goalie Jack Riordan racing towards the goal line to stop it, where Matt Cassidy was there to stuff it to give Delhi back the lead. Several great Delhi scoring chances followed, but a gritty Hawks defense and stellar play in goal by Riordan kept things close. Goalie Marcos Andrino and the Broncos defense matched that effort, keeping Hartwick silent in the second half to preserve the victory.

The men's soccer team takes to the road again this Saturday, looking to keep their winning ways going at Bard, set to kick off at 12 noon.
