Delhi Blanks Fisher in NIAC Semis, Heads to NIAC Championship Sunday

MEDFORD, Mass. (November 4, 2017) – Only two things were different from SUNY Delhi men's soccer's NIAC Semifinals win at Fisher on Saturday and their regular-season meeting two weeks ago: the location, and the score. On the Falcons' home field, the Broncos charged to a 4-0 shutout win, giving them a season sweep of Fisher after beating them, 2-1, at home on October 21. Men's Soccer, now 9-7 on the year, will square off against Maine Fort Kent for the NIAC Championship on Sunday at noon.

While the last meeting didn't have any goals until the second half, Delhi, with the help of Joseph O'Halloran and Matthew Cassidy, made its message clear from the get-go. O'Halloran connected on a feed from Cassidy just 2:10 into the contest to give the Broncos the early lead. Cassidy added to the Broncos' lead with a score of his own, assisted by Alhasane Sako, to give Delhi a 2-0 advantage at 21:02.

While Fisher outshot Delhi, 16-15, the Falcons offered just four shots on goal the whole contest. With a matching four saves from goalie Marcos Andrino, on his way to his fourth shutout of the season, Delhi remained in control, as they finished with 13 shots on goal. However, nothing prepared the Broncos for their third goal of the day. What looked to be just roughly a 30-yard throw-in from Griffin Metzko, his throw deflected off the hands of keeper Chris Garcia into the net at 74:16 that gave Delhi a 3-0 lead. One final score by Austin Hutchins at 87:49 capped off a fruitful day for the Broncos.

Sako's one assist upped his team-leading scoring total to 15 points on six goals and three assists. Cassidy's one goal and one assist jumped him to third with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Yellow cards were given to Delhi's Metzo and Fisher's Robert Milne, Garcia and Andrew Leveillee.
