Sako Nets Hat Trick, Broncos Post Season High in Scoring with Rout of Vermont Tech

DELHI, N.Y. (October 11, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi men's soccer team set a new season high on Wednesday with eight goals, including a hat trick from Alhasane Sako, to smoke Vermont Tech by an 8-2 score. The Broncos initially had a 3-0 second-half lead, but after two quick Knights goals got them back in the game, Delhi reeled off five unanswered scores to run away with the win.

Joe Vasquez opened the festivities with a goal in the 31st minute, after which Sako delivered the first of his three scores at minute 44. Austin Hutchins added with his first goal of the year just two minutes into the second half, but Vermont Tech tallied a pair of scores to make the score 3-2 at the 56-minute mark. Delhi began its onslaught of scores with a Jostin Sarmiento goal in the 61st minute for his first score of 2017. Sako delivered the next two goals to complete his hat trick in the 70th and 79 minute, both assisted by David Vasquez. Frank Jauler then connected on his first goal of the year in the 85th minute, also assisted by Vasquez, while Darion Arango closed out the scoring with one in the 87th minute, assisted by Michael Zerniak.

The Broncos overwhelmed the Knights with a 31-4 lead in shots, including 23-2 in shots on goal. SUNY Delhi had 14 fouls to Vermont Tech's seven, with yellow cards given out to Broncos Matthew Cassidy and Jostin Sarmiento and Knight Matthew Brien.

Sako has netted four goals over Delhi's last two contests, and is now the Broncos' scoring leader with 10 points on five goals. Vasquez's three assists on the day catapults him to the top of the team assist leaderboard with four. A total of 14 Broncos have scored this season, with only four scoring multiple goals.
