Men's Soccer Plays to 1-0 Defeat to ACPHS

DELHI, N.Y. (September 9, 2017) – For the second straight match, the SUNY Delhi men's soccer team played to a 1-0 score at home. But unlike the first time, the Broncos ended up on the short end at the expense of the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Despite SUNY Delhi leading, 11-9, in shots, a 12th-minute goal by the Panthers' Mina Girgis served as the difference in the match. Delhi moved to 2-2 on the year, while ACPHS improved to 2-1.

The Broncos came out firing to begin the match, leading in shots, 9-3, by halftime. However, it would be ACPHS' second shot of the day, a score from Girgis off a scramble in the box, that provided the 1-0 score at 11:46. The Panthers had several chances to increase their lead, but great stops by the Broncos defense and a few offsides calls came to Delhi's aid. Despite targeting six shots on goal, compared to ACPHS' three, the Broncos were unable to even the score.

Marcos Andrino finished with two saves on the day, while ACPHS' Matt Houlian tallied six. Griffin Metzko led Delhi with four shots, including a match-high three shots on goal. Estefano Correia had three shots with one on goal, while Brody Rettle had two shots, including one on goal.

The defeat also came at a price, when a pair of red cards were given to the Broncos' David Vasquez and the Panthers' Dylan LaBarge in the 16th minute. Joseph O'Halloran and John Cabrera were each given yellow cards, as well, both in the second half.
