Delhi Visits High-Scoring Randolph Macon in 18-6 Midweek Defeat

ASHLAND, Va. (February 26, 2020) – The SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team headed up the road to Randolph Macon at the midway point of their Virginia road trip Wednesday, falling to the Yellow Jackets by an 18-6 score for their first defeat. The Broncos were held scoreless in the first quarter as Jack McClurg netted a pair of goals to lead the team in scoring. Goalie Travis Anderson finished with 16 saves on a busy afternoon in goal. The 1-1 Broncos wrap up their Virginia road travels heading to Virginia Wesleyan on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

Randolph Macon settled in right away with a pair of early goals in the first two minutes. Delhi quickly gathered itself to hold off the scoring for much of the remainder of the period, with Anderson tallying seven of his saves in that stretch. While the Broncos had a couple of chances to get on the board, the Yellow Jackets ultimately gathered two more scores to pull ahead at the first quarter break, 4-0. RMC carried things over with the first three goals of the second quarter before McClurg got one back for Delhi midway through the quarter. The Broncos got two more in the third, first on a man-up chance from Aidan Costello and McClurg's second of the day. Mark Frascello, King White, and Mike Kelly on an extra-man opportunity accounted for Delhi's three fourth-quarter goals.

Anderson faced 31 totals shots before freshman goalie Ian Leahy stepped in for the final 11-and-a-half minutes, posting two saves on five shots faced. Kelly totaled three assists, while Logan Bauer posted two. RMC outshot, Delhi, 44-27, including 36-18 in shots on goal. The Broncos cleared on 11-of-22 attempts and won nine faceoffs. Nick Dower won six of them, while Nick Scarpa won two. Delhi kept Randolph Macon scoreless on six man-up chances, while coming through on two-of-six chances.  

Head coach Sam Miller's squad wraps things up down south versus the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins on Friday, then return to New York State opening up at Wells on Wednesday, March 4 and at SUNY Brockport Saturday, March 7.
