MARCY, N.Y. (March 27, 2019) – It took seven games and 25 days, but the SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse had their win streak halted Wednesday at SUNY Poly in a 14-10 non-conference defeat. Despite an outstanding seven-goal, one-assist performance by John Rohan, the Broncos, now 6-3, ended up on the short end for the first time this season within New York State. Head coach Sam Miller's squad returns to NAC play this Saturday, hosting Thomas at 1:00 p.m. at SUNY Oneonta.

While the Wildcats maintained the lead throughout the contest, Delhi kept Poly on its heels, cutting the lead down to one four times. The home team scored the first two goals just over two-and-a-half minutes in for a quick 2-0 lead. Rohan began his high-scoring day by getting one back for the Broncos with 6:13 remaining in the first. After another Poly goal, Rohan went back to work, netting his and Delhi's second goal of the day with seconds remaining to close the first quarter down, 3-2. The Wildcats opened the second similarly to the first with two straight goals to lead, 5-2. Rohan again responded like he did in the opening period with his third goal to cut things down to two. An ensuing Charles Rosaschi score gave Poly its largest lead of the game at that point, 6-3, until Brian Conti connected for a goal to finish out the second-half scoring to get Delhi closer, 6-4, at halftime.

Rohan began the third quarter with his fourth goal, marking his sixth game this season with at least four goals, to get the Broncos back within one, 6-5, with 13:03 to play in the period. The Wildcats, however, quickly regained momentum with two scores that brought their lead back up to three at 8-5 with 10:34 left in the third. But Delhi refused to go away with a two-goal scare, starting with Jacob Nygard scoring with 3:05 remaining for the quarter and Rohan's fifth score just 16 seconds later. Poly would have the last word of the quarter, finding the net once again to enter the fourth up, 9-7. The men from Marcy got their lead back up to three to start the fourth-quarter goals. And while Malik Talbert responded to pull Delhi back to within two, the Wildcats ran off the next four goals for a 14-8 lead with 3:36 remaining. Rohan's sixth and seventh goals of the evening made up the last scores.

Rohan's career day blasted his NAC-leading totals to 39 points and 32 goals. Talbert had one goal and one assist Wednesday, giving him 33 points on 25 goals to rank second in the conference. Brandon McGrath added one assist, as the freshman leads the NAC with 14 points. Freshman keeper Travis Anderson finished with 14 saves on 28 shots faced. He continues to lead the conference with an 8.67 goals against average and is second with a 58.9 save percentage.

The Broncos outshot the Wildcats, 43-40, but Poly led, 28-19, in shots on goal. Delhi was good on 15-of-20 clears, yet were 0-for-3 on extra-man opportunities as Poly connected on 2-of-4. Faceoff man Nick Dower won 12 faceoffs.
