WATERVILLE, Me. (March 1, 2019) – The SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse team debuted at number six in their first-ever NAC Preseason Poll, as announced by the conference this week. The Broncos received 19 points.

Under third-year head coach Sam Miller, the Broncos began their first season as NCAA Division III members on Wednesday with a road game versus Randolph, a 9-7 defeat, down in Virginia. Delhi finishes out its southern trip on Saturday, facing Bridgewater at 1:00 p.m. Upon returning to New York State, the men will have a three-game road swing within a week. It starts with Purchase on Mar. 6, Wells on Mar. 9 and Cazenovia on Mar. 13.

Coach Miller has an even split of 13 returners and 13 newcomers for 2019. His returnees include team captains Antonio Russo, Malik Talbert, Brandon Katz and Jacob Nygard. Talbert, who was Delhi's leading scorer last year, tallied a game-high four goals on Wednesday against the Wildcats to start off his senior season. Of Miller's ten freshmen, goalie Travis Anderson got the start in goal for the season-opener, totaling 11 saves.

The Broncos are ready to hit the ground running to make a run for their first NCAA conference tournament in late April. The NAC and New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) will conduct a combined championship in 2019. The top two teams from each conference will face off (No. 1 NAC vs. No. 2 NECC / No.1 NECC vs. No. 2 NAC) in semifinal games on Saturday, April 27. The winners from those two games will meet for the NAC championship on Saturday, May 4. The top two seeds are determined by each conference, both choosing regular season standings to determine the highest seeds in 2019.

Husson topped the preseason poll, garnering 47 points and five first-place votes. Fellow SUNY school and NAC newcomer SUNY Canton ranked second with 43 points and two first-place votes. Maine Maritime was third with 33 points, while Thomas was fourth with 23 points and NVU Lyndon fifth with 21 points. NVU Johnson took the seventh and final spot with ten points.
