THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 7, 2018) – SUNY Delhi men's lacrosse spent day one of spring break traveling to take on SUNY Maritime in a Saturday afternoon contest. While John Rohan III had himself a five-point day, including setting a new team game-high this year with four goals, the Broncos came up short in a high-scoring 16-8 defeat to the Privateers.

Maritime scored the first seven goals of the day, with two in the first quarter and five in the second quarter, to lead 7-0 with 4:55 left in the half. Rohan got Delhi on the board with 1:33 to play in the half to cut the Privateers' lead to 7-1 at halftime. After another Maritime score to begin the third quarter, Rohan netted a man-down goal, assisted by Sean Tillman, to keep the deficit at six goals. Both sides exchanged goals again, with the latter scored by Ross Cange off an assist by Malik Talbert with 5:49 left in the quarter to make the score 9-3 Privateers. Maritime then reeled off three straight goals, interrupted by Rohan's third goal of the day as the score after three periods read 12-4.

Two straight Privateers scores ensued to start the fourth quarter before Delhi strung together three consecutive scores. Jacob Nygard netted the first with 6:15 remaining, followed by Tillman from Rohan shortly after with 5:59 to go, and Rohan getting goal number four on a man-up chance, assisted by Talbert, with 5:19 to go to make the score 14-7. Maritime scored the next two goals to finish out their scoring, only to see Talbert earn his team-best 17th goal of the year to wrap up the scoring for good.

Goalie Eric Morse recorded 18 saves on 32 faced shots in 53:43 of action. Dante Restaino came in for one save on three faced shots. Midfield men Mitch Spaziani and Sam Famolare combined to win seven faceoffs, five for Spaziani and two for Famolare.

Delhi was outshot, 45-22, and grabbed 32 ground balls to Maritime's 52. The Broncos forced the Privateers into 27 turnovers, cleared 15-of-23 attempts and capitalized on 1-of-3 man-up opportunities.

The Broncos are back on the road on Tuesday for a meeting at Farmingdale State at 4:00 p.m.
