Men Score Season High in Home Return to Penn College Tech

DELHI, N.Y. (January 3, 2019) – Following a month-long, seven-game stretch on the road, the SUNY Delhi men's basketball team returned to their home crowd Thursday against Penn College of Technology. The Broncos made the first of their three-game homestand a high-scoring spectacle, dropping a season-best 110 points to defeat the Wildcats, 110-72, to improve to 7-8.

Delhi entered Thursday looking to start the New Year off right after going 2-5 record during its road trip following a 4-3 start to the year. They did so in extraordinary fashion on account of 13 Broncos scoring, including five in double digits, two with 20-point games, and two with double-doubles. Guards Carlos Ithier and William Knight combined for 13 of Delhi's year-best 20 3-pointers on the day, with Ithier nailing 7-of-11 for a game-high 23 points and Knight burying 6-of-12 for 22 points. Jordan Fragale and Payton Dean each nabbed their fifth double-doubles on the year, with Fragale recording 12 points with 13 assists and Dean tallying ten points and ten rebounds. Norman Wilson finished with ten points, four boards and four assists.

The Broncos began the affair ahead moderately, 15-11, with 13:45 to go in the first half before jumping on a 23-2 run over roughly the next five minutes that saw them take control from then on. By half's end, Knight and Ithier knocked down four triples apiece, with Knight tallying 16 of his points and Ithier 14, as Delhi entered the locker room up, 60-30. Fragale also had all 12 of his points in the first half, as well as nine of his assists, with six of them producing 3-pointers out of the team's 11 in the opening session.

Head coach Zack Thomsen's team was not yet satisfied with their lead to start the second half, as they made five 3-pointers in just under the first five minutes during a 17-6 run. The run was capped with Knight and Ithier making 3-pointers on three straight possessions to go ahead, 77-36, with 15:20 to play. Delhi got its lead up to as many as 49 points on their way to their biggest point total since Jan. 10 of last year (a 110-58 win over College of St. Joseph).

The men totaled their highest field goal margins of the season on both sides of the arc, making 57.5 percent from the floor (42-for-73) and 20-for-39 from long range. PCT finished at 41.8 percent (28-for-67) and 8-for-32, respectively. The Broncos controlled the rebounding battle, 46-32, and cashed in 16 Wildcats turnovers for a 25-14 edge in points off turnovers.

Saquan Goland finished second on the team with eight rebounds to along with two points. Jared Beach made a pair of threes to finish with eight points and five rebounds, while Justin Daoud went a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the arc for six points. Jacob Beach, Baba Babalola and Nate Craft charted four points, as Jordan Jackson totaled three points and Donavyn Perrin two points to make up all of Delhi's scorers on the evening.

The Broncos look to keep their charge going with their next game against Northern Vermont Lyndon on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
