Broncos Drop 102 on Maine Machias for Fifth Straight Win

DELHI, N.Y. (December 18, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team's hot streak continued Monday afternoon against Maine Machias, breaking the 100-point mark for the first time this season for a 102-80 victory. The Broncos, now 8-7 and winners of five straight, close out the 2017 leg of their season above .500 for the first time this year.

While the Clippers had two 20-point scorers and another with 19 points, six Broncos scored in double-figures on the afternoon as Delhi held an astounding 52-6 advantage in bench points. Jake Slobe led the team with 18 points off the bench, while Payton Dean had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, including eight offensive. Stephen Harten also tallied 15 points to go along with five boards and four steals. William Knight produced 14 points off the pine, with fellow reserve Terrance McBride connecting for 13 markers. Saquan Goland added four points with eight rebounds.

Delhi led the whole way, even leading by as much as 31 points at one point in the second half. The Broncos made half their shots on the day (41-for-82), while the Clippers shot 49.2 percent (30-for-61). Delhi fared 6-of-23 from 3-point range and 14-of-21 from the free-throw line, with UMM faring 4-for-10 and 16-for-23, respectively. The Broncos led, 26-5, in points off turnovers, forcing the Clippers into 20 turnovers. Delhi also led, 66-50, in points in the paint and 14-8 in fastbreak points.

Head coach Zack Thomsen's team's first test after winter break will be a three-game stay at the Florida National Tournament from January 4 to January 6. The Broncos are set to play Blue Lights, Virgin Islands, and Florida National. Delhi's first home game of 2018 will be against NHTI on Saturday, January 13 at 1:00 p.m.
