DELHI, N.Y. (November 18, 2017) – Win number two for the SUNY Delhi men's basketball team came Saturday in the form of revenge on Stratford, who handed the Broncos defeat number one two weeks ago. Backed by a double-double from Payton Dean and 21 points from Jake Slobe, Delhi clipped the Cardinals by a 66-62 score in the opening round of the Bronco Fastbreak. The Broncos will play Berkeley on Sunday in the championship at 4:00 p.m. Stratford will play The Apprentice School in the consolation round at 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

The Broncos held a 36-34 lead after a solid first half in which neither side held more than a four-point lead. Delhi held that honor when a Damon Denteh layup made the score 27-23 with 5:25 to play in the half. The game would switch leads to start the second half before the Broncos built its lead up to eight on a Terrance McBride three at 50-42 with 10:34 to go. The Cardinals rallied to take a 60-59 lead with 2:32 to play, but a Slobe go-ahead triple put Delhi ahead for good at 62-60 with 56 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, a clutch steal by Dean sent William Knight down the court for a layup to put the Broncos up by four. A pair of Slobe free throws and a Stratford dunk by Jashad Jamison with six ticks left accounted for the remaining buckets.

Dean finished with a season-high 18 points and 12 rebounds, and swatted away four shots. As a reserve, Slobe made 4-of-9 3-pointers on his way to tying a season-high in scoring, while Stephen Harten pulled down nine boards. Denteh tallied eight points and five boards off the bench, with McBride making seven points. Saquan Goland, Knight, and Brandon Grayson each had four points, with Grayson adding five rebounds and five assists.

Both sides fared relatively even from the floor, but from the free throw line, the Broncos capitalized on 16-of-22 shots, while the Cardinals managed 11-of-22. Delhi's bench outscored Stratford's 40-18, and held a 12-7 lead in points off turnovers, forcing Stratford into ten turnovers. Delhi also held a 10-6 advantage in fast break points.
