Men's Basketball Routs ACPHS for First Win of Season

ALBANY, N.Y. (November 15, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team earned their first win of the 2017-18 campaign Wednesday night, using a strong second half and hot 3-point shooting to rout Albany College of Pharmacy by a 74-54 score. The win was a much-needed breakthrough for the Broncos, whose first four games were close-margin defeats, including two that were decided in overtime.

The Broncos made a remarkable 12-of-25 from 3-point range against the Panthers. William Knight led the game with 16 points, hitting on 4-of-9 3-pointers, while Jake Slobe tallied 14 points, making 4-of-5 triples in 18 minutes off the bench. Saquan Goland finished with eight points and a game-high 17 rebounds, including seven offensive boards, as the Broncos outrebounded the Panthers, 49-36. Jordan Fragale made seven points, including one triple, and dished out 11 assists.

Led by Slobe's performance, Delhi outscored ACPHS, 37-25, in bench points. Kori Henriquez and Terrance McBride each made nine points off the pine, with Henriquez making all of his points in the second half, going 2-for-2 from long range. In a game where 14 Broncos hit the court, Delhi shot 42.2 percent (27-for-64), while the Panthers registered 34.5 percent (20-for-58).

Coach Zack Thomsen's team held a close lead for much of the first half, and took a slim 34-31 lead into halftime on a Fragale tie-breaking three with ten seconds remaining in the half. The Broncos then ran off 40 second-half points, while holding the Panthers to 23 points in the closing session. The men jumped on a 13-4 run to start the second half, and stretched their lead to as much as 22 points.
