DELHI, N.Y. (November 10, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team battled Villa Maria to a fierce contest Friday evening, and despite four Broncos reserves scoring in double digits, Delhi was handed its third straight defeat, 86-81.

The night was highlighted by William Knight's season debut. After missing the first two games because of injury, the guard came off the bench and secured 20 points in 28 minutes. He made four 3-pointers, all in the first half. Knight was backed by a 13-point performance from Damon Denteh, and ten points each from Terrance McBride and Payton Dean.

Despite Delhi's bench outscoring Villa's, 57-11, the Vikings outrebounded the Broncos, 54-39, and had a 20-6 advantage in fast-break points. Delhi was also hampered by foul trouble, with Stephen Harten fouling out in the second half and four fouls each from Saquan Goland, Isaiah Wilson and Dean. Villa Maria ended up making 23-of-40 free throws, while Delhi managed an 8-for-13 showing from the stripe. The Broncos did make a splash from 3-point range in the first half, making five-of-14 triples, with Knight shooting 4-for-6. They cooled off however from long range in the second, connecting on only 2-of-11, with both threes coming from Denteh, who finished 3-for-5 from downtown on the evening.

The Vikings held their largest lead of the game at 62-43 with 16:35 to go in the game. Delhi jumped on a 14-0 run to cut the lead to five with 10:12 to go. While Villa Maria built its lead back up to ten at 71-61 just three minutes later, Delhi again surged to come back to within five again on a Dean layup. That layup would come, however, with seven seconds to play.
