DELHI, N.Y. (November 4, 2017) – The SUNY Delhi men's basketball team opened their season in front of their hometown crowd Saturday against Stratford. Despite a slow first half, the Broncos finished strong in the second half, only to fall to the Cardinal by a 77-67 score.

Guard Jake Slobe led the Broncos with 19 points, connecting on two 3-pointers and grabbing six rebounds. Forward Payton Dean performed well in the paint, finishing with 12 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the floor, and tallying six rebounds in 23 minutes of action. Guards Brandon Grayson and Damon Denteh each had ten points, with Denteh connecting on 2-of-3 triples, while Kori Henriquez had nine points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Cardinal jumped out to a 13-2 lead to open the fray, and never lost the lead. The Broncos trailed, 42-28, at the half, but came out strong to begin the second half, cutting Stratford's lead to five at 52-47 with 14:27 to play in the game. That would be as close as they would come, though, as Stratford built its lead back up to as much as 15 points in the final minutes.

Delhi was outrebounded, 46-40, as Stratford scored 46 points in the paint to the Broncos' 32. The Cardinal also led, 47-26, in bench points, and converted 21 points off 21 turnovers, while Delhi cashed in 19 points off 17 turnovers. Delhi fared 16-26 from the free-throw line, as Stratford connected on 16-of-20.
