Utica Set to Host Blue & Orange Invitational

UTICA, NY - The Utica University track and field program is set to host the Blue & Orange Invitational beginning on Friday, January 27 at 5:30 p.m. The meet will resume on Saturday, January 28 at 10 a.m. and conclude later that day.

Last Time Out: Both relay teams placed first in the 4x400M events. The women continued their unbelievable season in the 4x400M capturing their third win as a team coming in at 4:11:.88. The team is composed of Laura Meade, Mackenzie Mix, Janaiya Cruz-Bermudez, and Jade Dening. The men's team featured Andy Hadasz (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Dion Putaski (Vernon, NY/Vernon-Verona Sherrill) , Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel), and Zuriel Wright (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) who's winning time was 3:33.02. Mackenzie Mix turned in a phenomenal performance winning the women's 60M with a time of 7.99 beating second place by a whopping .21. Mix continued her day winning the 200M clocking in at 26.08. Andy Hadasz (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) continued his strong season and placed third in the men's 60M coming in at 7.20. Janaiya Cruz-Bermudez placed second in the women's 400M clocking in at 1:04.38 and has been great this season in her individual events. Utica did well in the men's 400M and had two top-three finishers. Dion Putaski (Vernon, NY/Vernon-Verona Sherrill) placed second with a time of 53.27 and Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel) came in third clocking in at 53.59.Laura Meade won the women's 60M hurdles clocking in at 9.74 and Jade Dening placed first with a time of 2:31.52 in women's 800M. Ethan Kain (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) did well in the men's 200M and clocked in at 24.00. Amina Sinclair placed first in the women's high jump scoring 1.47. Blake Hobin (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) came in first in the men's high jump scoring 1.91. Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) came in first in the men's shot put scoring 15.59. Utica dominated the weight throw events as Antwan Kelly (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Gabrielle DeSanctis both placed at the top of the podium. Kelly collected another win in the weight throw event and scored 14.70. DeSanctis' winning score was 14.70 while teammates Emilia Costello and Ranasia Bailey came in second and third scoring 13.79 and 12.62. Zuriel Wright (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) continued his winning ways placing first in the men's long jump with a score of 6.76. Nora Devitt came in second and scored 4.47 in the women's long jump. Wright also won the men's triple jump scoring 12.78 and Devitt placed first scoring 10.40 in the women's triple jump.

Top Notch: The women's team is ranked fifth and the men are ranked sixth in the Division III Niagara Region for indoor track and field. The track and field program has a handful of individuals that are ranked top-50 in the All-Atlantic Region and Track Conference. Andrew Hadasz is ranked 35th in the 60M and 23rd in the 200M after having back-to-back strong meets. Mackenzie Mix is ranked 19th in the women's 60M and sixth in the women's 200M after turning in a wonderful Hamilton Invitational performance. Laura Meade is ranked 36th in the women's 60M, 10th in the women's triple jump, and sixth in the women's pentathlon and continues to show her versatility. Zuriel Wright (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) is second in the men's high jump and 21st in the men's long jump and continues his fantastic record-breaking season. Blake Hobin (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) is ranked 11th in the men's high jump after his strong performance at the Hamilton Invitational. Amina Sinclair is second in the women's high jump and Jane Fahy is third in women's shot put. For the men, Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) sits at fourth and Billie Mays III (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) is 14th. Antwan Kelly (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) is second in the men's weight throw and Nathan Florian is 16th. Lastly, Gabrielle DeSanctis currently sits at 12th and Emilia Costello is ranked 19th after both have turned in multiple top-five finishes this season.

Stacking the W's: Mackenzie Mix was named Empire 8 Women's Co- Indoor Field Athlete of the week, as announced by the league on Monday. Mix won the women's 60m with a time of 7.99 beating second place by a whopping .21, which tied her personal best. Mix continued by winning the 200m at 26.08. She wrapped up her day as the anchor of the winning 4x400m team capturing their third win as a team coming in at 4:11:88. Mix has had a tremendous season and is currently ranked 20th nationally in the 200-meters.

Cruisin: The women 4x400 team has been phenomenal this season stacking three first place finishes and one second place finish. The team is ranked second and Laura Meade, Mackenzie Mix, Janiaya Bermudez-Cruz, and Jade Dening have all had terrific seasons in individual events.

Jump Around: Blake Hobin (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) continues to build on his great season and had success in the men's high jump at the Hamilton College Invitational. He came out on top with a mark of 1.91 after placing second in the previous meet. Amina Sinclair has continued to improve in the women's high jump each meet. Sinclair finished third with a score of 1.52 in the Utica Winter Opener and then attained first place scoring 1.47 in her last meet.

Slingin It: The shot put and weight throw teams have heated up and repeatedly turn in top-five finishers. In the Hamilton Invitational Jane Fahy had an outstanding performance placing first place in the women's shot put with a score of 12.90. In the team's last meet Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) finished in 1st place with a mark of 15.59 in the men's shot put. Logan has been steadily improving his throws and looks to continue his All-American form. In the women's weight throwing event, Gabriella Desanctis captured first scoring 14.70 and continues to be on a tear this season as she has multiple top-five finishes this season.

Pair of Wins: Zuriel Wright (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) has had a fantastic record-breaking season and continued his success at the Hamilton Invitational winning the men's long jump with a score of 6.76. Wright also won the men's triple jump scoring 12.78. Nora Devitt has started to break into form and placed second with a mark of 4.47 in the women's long jump. Devitt continued her fantastic Hamilton Invitational placing first scoring 10.40 in the women's triple jump.

Up Next: The teams will remain home and host the Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational on Saturday, February 4 with the time to be determined.
