SUNY Delhi to Welcome Three New Members to Athletics Hall of Fame

DELHI, N.Y. (September 24, 2018) – The SUNY Delhi Athletics Hall of Fame Committee is proud to announce its 2018 induction class. This year the committee welcomes Hikaru Kozuma (Women's Volleyball '07), Robin Turner (Baseball, Basketball, Soccer '65) and the 1991-92 men's basketball team to its hallowed halls. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 17 in conjunction with the men's basketball team's Hall of Fame Classic weekend tournament.

"As Director of Athletics of now a NCAA Division III program, we're very excited to recognize our Class of 2018," said committee chair Bob Backus. "The Athletics Department is pleased to host this event in coordination with our home basketball contests for the benefit of our student body and campus."

2018 Hall of Fame Inductees

Hikaru Kozuma '07

Hikaru Kozuma enjoyed two spectacular years on the SUNY Delhi women's volleyball team from 2006 to 2007, with her 956 digs and 110 aces still standing as Broncos career records. She was named the 2006 Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year, while securing second-team All-Region 3 and first-team All-MVC selections in 2007. Kozuma helped guide Delhi to the 2007 NJCAA Region 3 Tournament, where she landed in the NJCAA national top ten in four statistical categories that season: 530 total digs, 5.955 digs per set, 81 total aces, and 0.910 aces per set. She earned a full athletic scholarship to NCAA Division II Hawaii Pacific University, playing defensive specialist for the Sea Warriors for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Kozuma graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration, focusing in Travel Industry Management.

Robin Turner '65

Robin Turner was a three-sport star athlete for Delhi from 1963 to 1965, playing soccer, basketball and baseball. He was a six-time letter winner, and captain of all three teams during his senior year. Robin played on Delhi's first men's soccer team, helping lead the "Booters" to a perfect 4-0 record in 1963, followed by a third-place finish at the Region 3 Championship in 1964. On the basketball court, Robin helped Delhi reach the Region 3 championship game his freshman year. Graduating with an Associate's in Hospitality in 1965, Robin went on to finish his Bachelor's at Denver University. He returned to Delhi as a teacher in the school of Hospitality, a position that he held for 32 years. His proudest accomplishment was taking part in developing the curriculum and logistics to bring the Hospitality program to a four-year Bachelor's degree level. Robin was a notable fixture during the college's 20-year run hosting the NJCAA Men's Basketball National Tournament, aiding in the hospitality of the participating teams and tournament workers and volunteers.

Led by National Coach of the Year Gary Cole, Delhi finished fourth at the national championship, defeating Montgomery C.C. and Union County College. Their only tournament loss came in double overtime to Rhode Island College in what some still consider to be the most exciting game in Broncos basketball history. Forwards Sam Allen and Mel Hathaway and guard Bob Law were recognized to the All-Region 3 Team.
